Geophisical survey carried out at Podšilo cove (Lopar, Rab island)

Lopar-Podsilo-magnetometry

Project RED team members, Goranka Lipovac Vrkljan and Ana Konestra, with external collaborators Fabian Welc (Institute of archaeology at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw) and Radoslav Mieszkowsky (Faculty of Geology at Warsaw University), have conducted geophisical surveys at two locations at Podšilo cove (Rab island) between April 24th and 27th 2016. On the basis of previous excavations of a pottery kiln in Podšilo cove and other finds, two ROman sites have been supposed within the cove, at the locations Beli grad and Podkućine.
Confirming such locations and further data on the layout of ancient structures can help understand of the choice of location for the pottery kiln and explain its relationship with the nearby sites. Surveys were carried out using three methods (geo radar, magnetometer and geo electrical resistivity), while detailed results are expected in the following months.
